When the Oshawa Generals acquired Philip Tomasino, they knew they were mortgaging their future big time. Tomasino did not come cheap, as the Generals traded nine draft picks to acquire him, but so far their decision has been paying off.
Philip Tomasino Proving His Worth
Through his first few weeks with the Generals, Tomasino has been tearing up the opposition. Through 14 games, he has scored 14 goals and 17 assists for 34 points. On his transition from Niagara to Oshawa, he said, “it has been awesome for sure. Obviously everyone involved in the organization has made it pretty easy for me and I have gotten the chance to play with some high-end players for sure. I think we are a great team and I think we have a positive future, for sure, if we keep heading in the right direction.”
Heading into Sunday night’s game against the Flint Firebirds, Tomasino and the Generals were riding a two-game winning streak. Having beat the Sudbury Wolves and the Hamilton Bulldogs at home, they were in for a tough test against the Firebirds. Although the Firebirds ended up beating the Generals in the end, Tomasino and his linemates proved that they could lead the way and almost ended up coming back.
Playing alongside a rotating cast that includes Ty Tullio, Allan McShane and Brett Neumann, Tomasino has really found his stride. Tomasino gives all the credit to his linemates. He said, “obviously those guys are elite players. They’re great finishers and great playmakers so I think we really complement each other well.”
Taking His Game to the Next Level
After having been drafted 24th overall by the Nashville Predators in the 2019 NHL draft, Tomasino experienced his first pro-development camp last summer. When asked what he took from development camp to implement into his game, Tomasino stated, “you learn a lot from the pros. You know, mainly off-ice habits: how they treat their bodies, how they eat. I think it’s a huge difference from juniors to the pros for sure. The type of players.. the guys are a lot stronger, especially along the boards, so you need to think that-much quicker and be that-much faster.”
All signs point to Tomasino being a great NHL player for years to come. He is sure to keep taking the right steps and will surely suit up for the Preds in years to come.
