The Columbus Blue Jackets announced that centre Alexander Wennberg is sidelined for three to four weeks with an upper-body injury.

Alexander Wennberg on Injured Reserve

In Montreal on Sunday, Alexander Wennberg made it through two periods before not returning for the third. The Blue Jackets ruled Wennberg out for the rest of the game, placing him on injured reserve Monday.

So far this season, Wennberg has scored five goals and 15 assists for 20 points to go along with 16 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 48.7 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of 1.4.

Over his six-year NHL career, Wennberg has played for just the Columbus Blue Jackets. He has 40 goals and 159 assists for 199 career points in 410 career games. He was originally drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the first round, 14th overall in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

What This Means for the Future

So it seems that things have gone from bad to worse, on the injury side of things. With Wennberg out, the Blue Jackets now have seven different players listed on the injured reserve list. With Wenneberg out the Blue Jackets lose another key piece to their offence. Positioned as second-line centre, Wennberg fills the role well with five points in the last eight games.

Moving forward, the Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled Ryan MacInnis from the Cleveland Monsters in the American Hockey League. Maclnnis has seven games played with the Blue Jackets, registering one assist in those games.

Despite all the injuries the Blue Jackets have suffered, they have still managed to keep a hold of the third Metropolitan Division spot with 65 points. The Blue Jackets face off against the Florida Panthers at home on Tuesday.
