The Montreal Canadiens have traded Marco Scandella to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for a 2020 second-round pick and a 2021 conditional fourth-round pick. The conditions for the fourth round pick are if St. Louis re-signs him prior to October 7th, 2020, or if they win two rounds and Scandella plays in at least half of the games in the first two rounds, the Canadiens get a fourth-round pick in 2021.

The Montreal Canadiens completed a trade Tuesday, February 18th with the St. Louis Blues. The Blues acquire defenceman Marco Scandella in exchange for a 2020 second-round pick and a 2021 conditional fourth-round pick.

Scandella is getting moved for the second time this season, coming to Montreal for the Habs’ 2020 4th round pick in January. Montreal immediately leaned on the new arrival, giving him three more minutes than he was playing in Buffalo.
His new team gets a solid, middle-pair defender who can move up temporarily if needed. The soon-to-be UFA scored three goals and nine points in 31 games for the Sabres this season but had no points during his brief Canadiens tenure. Over his 10-year NHL career, Scandella has played for the Minnesota Wild, Buffalo Sabres, and Canadiens. In that time, he has 42 goals and 94 assists for 136 career points in 569 career games.
He was originally drafted in the 2nd round, 55th overall of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Wild.
What This Means for the Future
Montreal acquired Scandella earlier this season for a fourth-round pick that they had acquired from the San Jose Sharks. They were able to recoup that price with the 2021 conditional fourth, plus gain a net profit with the 2020 second-round pick.
For the Blues, they should be looking for Scandella to bring depth and a steadying influence on their team. He has played 39 playoff games, though not since he left Minnesota. At the very least, he will be a useful piece who can cover for any more injuries.
