Sharks Pick Up Stefan Noesen
The Plano, Texas native has played for the Anaheim Ducks, New Jersey Devils and Penguins over his six-year NHL career. He has put up 25 goals and 21 assists for 46 career points in 165 career games. The Ottawa Senators originally drafted him in the first round, 21st overall of the 2011 NHL Draft.
This season he has a goal for one points in six game. His possession numbers are 44.1 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -8.7.
Noesen was picked up by the Penguins after he was released from a professional tryout with the Dallas Stars during pre-season training camp.
His best season was with the Devils in 2017-18 where he scored 13 goals and dished out 14 assists for 27 points in 72 games. Noesen’s best season juniors was 2011-12 with the Plymouth Whalers when he scored 38 goals in 63 games.
What This Means for the Future
The move seems like a low-risk play for the Sharks, who are looking for some depth forwards. The 26-year-old has seen his playing time steadily decrease until he was a healthy scratch in Tuesday’s 4-1 win over the Calgary Flames.
Pittsburgh was hoping to sneak Noesen past waivers and stash him away in AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. He has 14 goals and eight assists for 22 points with the AHL Penguins.
The Pens might have also made the move because Justin Schultz left Tuesday’s game after a knee-on-knee hit. Zach Trotman might be called up from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to fill out the roster.
The NHL has a holiday roster freeze which begins at midnight Thursday and runs through Dec. 27. The freeze prohibits teams from assigning or recalling players outside of emergency conditions.
