The St. Louis Blues signed free agent forward Troy Brouwer to a one-year two-way contract worth $750,000. Brouwer has spent the past week on a professional tryout with the Blues. Earlier Wednesday, the Blues announced forward Sammy Blais would be having wrist surgery and would miss at least 10 weeks. This made a little bit more room for Brouwer.

Troy Brouwer Signs With Blues
Over his 13-year NHL career, he has played for the Chicago Blackhawks, Washington Capitals, St. Louis Blues, Calgary Flames and Florida Panthers. Brouwer has put up 181 goals and 181 assists for 362 points in 838 career games played. He has also added 15 goals and 19 assists for 34 career points in the playoffs. Brouwer won a Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks in 2010.
He is most known by Blues fans for his Game 7 first-round winning goal in 2016 against his former team, the Blackhawks, to send the Blues to the second round. This was arguably one of the best moments in Blues playoff history, until last season. He was originally drafted in the seventh round, 214th overall, of the 2004 draft by the Blackhawks.
Last season with the Panthers, Brouwer scored 12 goals and nine assists for 21 points in 75 games played. His possession numbers were 47.1 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -2.9. He was released by the Panthers at the end of September.
What This Means For the Future
Brouwer hasn’t actually played in a game with the Blues yet this season so it’s hard to say if he’s ready or not or where exactly he would fit in. It’s safe to say that he might start out on the fourth line, maybe in Klim Kostin‘s spot.
If Brouwer could switch sides, he could take Blais’ spot in the lineup. If he gets any playing time, expect to see the lines mixed and matched until he finds chemistry.
