Viktor Arvidsson

Detroit Red Wings Sign Resurging Veteran Forward

The Detroit Red Wings sign a forward who potentially saved his NHL Career last season with the Boston Bruins. Viktor Arvidsson signed a two-year contract worth $10 million in total to become a Red Wing. Let’s dive into the Viktor Arvidsson contract.

Viktor Arvidsson’s Stellar Year with Bruins

Arvidsson played last season with the Bruins and exploded offensively compared to where he was. He finished with 25 goals and 54 total points. It was his third team in as many years. Playing with the LA Kings in 2023-2024, and then the Oilers the year after that.

In those two seasons, he only had 42 combined points. Not many people had a 50 point plus performance on their bingo cards when he signed in Boston. However, it worked, playing with David Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha really seemed to ignite a new spark in Arvidsson that was missing.

What Awaits Arvidsson in Detroit

Detroit is in the midst of some very turbulent times. Now that Buffalo ended their playoff drought, the Red Wings currently have the longest active playoff drought in the NHL. Their captain and Michigan hometown hero, Dylan Larkin, has requested a trade. It doesn’t sound like General Manager Steve Yzerman is keen on dealing the veteran forward with five years left on his contract.

Arvidsson proved in Boston he can play with elite talent and be a nice complimentary piece. However, the Red Wings are without the star pieces that Arvidsson could compliment. There’s still time to sign more players and get some more talent in the mix. But it certainly feels like Detroit is fighting an uphill battle. The Red Wings are hoping Arvidsson can have a repeat performance after last year. Time will tell if Yzerman and the rest of Red Wings management is hedging their bets on the right player.
