The St. Louis Blues are reaping their rewards of some savvy work by general manager Doug Armstrong. One of the two offer sheet signings Armstrong got from the Edmonton Oilers has signed a nice extension today. Blue forward Dylan Holloway has signed a five-year contract extension, with an average annual value of $7.75 million. In case you are wondering, defenceman Philip Broberg was the other signed to an offer sheet from Edmonton back in the summer of 2024. Now, for Holloway, this is a terrific deal for the player and team. Let’s discuss.

The deal was signed as Holloway was set to be an upcoming restricted free agent. The extension is set to expire in 2031, when of course, he would become an unrestricted free agent.
Hey, this is no knock on Edmonton. This is a guy, who just two seasons ago was playing 11:30 on their Stanley Cup Playoff roster. That was as a second-year NHLer. It would’ve been difficult to predict how quickly and how successful his rise to prominence has been. Moreover, the 24-year-old has had solid numbers in his two seasons in St. Louis. He has 48 goals, 66 assists, for 114 points in 136 games as a Blue. That’s been in an average ice time of 17:27. The best thing is that it appears he’s still improving.
Holloway Is Fitting in in St. Louis
Holloway has established himself as a speedy and physical forward. His scoring touch is a breath of fresh air for Blue fans.
It helped that Holloway is on a skilled line in 2025-26. Playing with Robert Thomas and Jimmy Snuggerud, it is a fairly complete offensive line. They may struggle in their own end, but they are the proud owners of a nice honour. If we set the filter at 250 minutes, they were the 15th best line in the NHL. That is if we go by Moneypuck‘s expected goal percentage. In 253.9 minutes this past season, they had a 58.1 xGoals%.
We will also add that for general manager Doug Armstrong, this may be one of his last moves. Yes, there could very well be more, but he is set to give up his post on July 1st. This was recently confirmed, as Alex Steen will be taking over the GM duties and role. Well, Armstrong can say the Holloway move was his legacy. Although, it is possible Steen has had some influence on such as move, as he has been transitioning into the role.
