Late Thursday night, veteran writer Tomas Ros, via Swedish newspaper Sportbladet, had a big scoop to share. Vancouver Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin has reportedly been fired following a dismal season. “On Thursday evening, local time in Canada, the owners agreed to dismiss Allvin,” reported Ros on Friday morning, Swedish local time. The Allvin firing scoop has since been confirmed by reporters from TSN. Allvin has indeed been relieved of his duties.

Allvin Out Following a Downward Spiral
This change comes as Vancouver finished its season with a record of 25-49-8, with 58 points. Moreover, the team ended with a record of 9-27-5 at home. That is good for the worst home points percentage since the 1995-96 Ottawa Senators.
Allvin was hired in January 2022 following President Jim Rutherford’s hiring. He previously served as a scout and assistant general manager on the Pittsburgh Penguins, working under Rutherford. Allvin and Rutherford have had a roller coaster of a journey with the Canucks. Initially, they had a reputation for snappy trades that improved the team, such as the trades for Elias Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov in the 2023-24 season. That season was also the one where they made the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Moreover, they took the eventual finalists, the Edmonton Oilers, to a seven-game series.
Since that season, it has been a spiral downwards, starting with locker room issues, which forced the trade of J.T. Miller. They subsequently missed the playoffs in 2024-2025. Head coach Rick Tocchet declined to sign an extension with the club, and then captain Quinn Hughes was traded earlier this past season. It is worth noting that Rutherford was the one who facilitated the Hughes deal. This past trade deadline, Allvin traded away Conor Garland, Tyler Myers, among others, which signified a full rebuild was on the horizon.
If Allvin is indeed departing the organization, we ponder the fate of head coach Adam Foote, whose future remains uncertain. With an important offseason coming, it will be essential for the Canucks to establish new staff before the NHL draft takes place.
