Today, a small, but somehow not to be understated, move was made in signing a depth forward. Winger Arthur Kaliyev signs a new contract to join the Ottawa Senators. The deal isn’t a big one, but it is for Kaliyev. In turn, if it could pay off for his team, then everyone is laughing.

The Sens current owner Michael Andlauer and general manager were working with the OHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs when Kaliyev captured the league title as a player. Eventually, he was drafted 33rd overall, in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, by Los Angeles.
Kaliyev busted on the scene at the NHL level. In 2021-22, his first full NHL season, the product of Uzbekistan, ended up with 14 goals, 13 assists, and 27 points in 80 games played for the Los Angeles Kings. However, for whatever reason, his production has dropped off. Now he has missed some time with injury, but that’s not really enough to explain his reduction in points. He only managed 15 points in 51 games in 2023-24 for LA. Then, in 2024-25, he only appeared in 19 professional games, split between the NHL and AHL. In the NHL, it was with the New York Rangers.
Now, Kaliyev gets a fresh start. This contract likely gets him a full-time gig on the fourth line. If he is able to produce, it will turn into something more, down the road.
