St. Louis Blues Defenceman Out At Least Six Weeks With Knee Injury

The St. Louis Blues announced that defenceman Colton Parayko will be out of the lineup for a minimum of six weeks. General manager Doug Armstrong said the blueliner will undergo a scope in his left knee. Parayko injured it in Wednesday’s 3-2 shootout win against the Los Angeles Kings. The 31-year-old even picked up an assist in the game.

Parayko Out At Least Six Weeks

Parayko will be out of the lineup for at least six weeks according to Blues general manager Doug Armstrong. He hurt himself in Wednesday’s game in overtime as he fell awkwardly along the offensive blue line, attempting to keep the puck in the zone. Not much was made of the situation at the time, but the circumstances prove that it was a serious injury.

This is a big blow for the player and the Blues as push for a playoff spot. St. Louis is just one point back of the Calgary Flames, who hold on to the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference. In addition, Parayko is coming off a great 4 Nations Face-Off campaign and helped Team Canada win the tournament. Also, he was on pace to break all his seasonal personal bests. So far this season, he’s scored 15 goals, already a career-best, and 35 points, matching his career-high. With Parayko being re-evaluated in six weeks, the best-case scenario would be he returns for the playoffs. However, the odds are against the Blues to make the postseason.

What Does This Mean For The Blues?

Armstrong has been hesitant at this trade deadline, mainly because of where his team is in the standings. He’s been on the fence about trading the captain Brayden Schenn, as well as other roster pieces. However, with this big blow on the back end, will he try to sell before it’s too late? Or will he double down and try and look for a blueliner to replace Parayko while he’s gone? All valid questions with less than 24 hours until the deadline.
