Kaiden Guhle underwent surgery Wednesday to remove his appendix. The Montreal Canadiens will reevaluate him in seven days. The Habs made the announcement on Thursday morning before training camp opened.

An appendectomy is a routine operation. On average, most patients only need one-to-two weeks to recover. It is likely Guhle will be able to participate in the preseason, but just a little later than he would have preferred. However, appendix removal can be serious, so it is good it was caught early. From a hockey perspective, it is better to miss time now than during the regular season.
The 22-year old had six goals and 16 assists in 70 games in his second NHL season last year. Guhle may have gotten more games played, but missed time due to an unrelated injury. The Edmonton native was selected in the first round of the 2020 NHL Draft.
Heading into camp, Guhle is projected to play in the top defensive pairing alongside Mike Matheson.
Habs Camp Opens
The Canadiens opened their training camp Thursday. The Habs are looking to make the playoffs for the first time since the 2021 season, where the advanced to the Stanley Cup Final. Training camp opened with a scrimmage, where head coach Martin St. Louis experimented with some line combinations to see what will be the best for the team.
Nick Suzuki centered a line with Cole Caufield and Juraj Slafkovsky. Kirby Dach centered Alex Newhook and new Hab Patrik Laine. Furthermore, Joel Armia centered a line with Jake Evans and Brendan Gallagher. while with Joshua Roy, Christian Dvorak and Josh Anderson made up the final line.
