Philadelphia Flyers Offseason Targets: Who’s On Their Radar?

Tanner Jeannot trade

It is time to turn the page to the 2024-25 season. After a strong season in which it saw the club perform better than expected, a strong offseason is in order. With key names available this offseason, here are some Flyers offseason targets and how they can impact the club.

Flyers Offseason Targets: Who’s On Their Radar?

After ending the 2023-24 NHL season in disappointing fashion, the Flyers look to add some key pieces to get them over the hump. Although the Flyers fell just short of the playoffs after holding a playoff spot for most of the season, Philadelphia went on to have a good season in the ‘New Era Of Orange’. This season gave their fans a new sense of hope.

The Flyers definitely exceeded expectations last season, tallying 38 wins, seven more than the previous season. Also, 87 points, which surpassed their total from 2023 by 12 points. This Ultimately landed them right outside looking in when the regular season ended. The Flyers seem to be a few pieces away, there has been many names linked to them ever since their season has ended.

Tanner Jeannot

The 27 year old forward was acquired by Tampa Bay could be on the move. The price to acquire Jeannot was hefty and now the club is looking to recoup assets. The Lightning re-signed him after the 2023 season for two years at $5.33 million. In addition, he hasn’t fit there well at all.

The Lightning want to dump this big contract. Also, he wants a fresh start as he has been struggling with Tampa. In 75 games with Tampa, he only has tallied 18 points (8g, 10a). However, he has shown upside while in the NHL. In 2021-22 he tallied 41 points with Nashville (24g, 17a). The Flyers seem to be quite a good fit for him as multiple young players who had have previous struggles with their first teams have started to blossom on the young squad.

Flyers stud, Owen Tippett, had struggles with the Panthers when he first got into the NHL, and was in a similar position to Jeannot when he came to Philly, since then he has blossomed into a proven player in the NHL, and they believe that Jeannot can come in and have the same effect on the team and be effective in helping them reach the postseason once again.

Martin Necas

Here is the second of the Flyers targets this offseason. It is a player that has been thrown around in the rumour mill via trade. The Carolina Hurricanes forward has been on the Flyers radar ever since the season has ended. Necas has been linked to many teams in this upcoming offseason, Philly being one of the top candidates. The 25 year old centre is just what the Flyers need as they lack depth at the position. With his impressive production last season, 53 points(24g, 29a) in 77 games, he would be an answer to the Flyers needs.

He would go from a third liner to a first liner, getting more minutes to improve his numbers from the season before. The Czech forward has tremendous upside, seeing that he has produced 243 points (97g, 146a) in his short career of 362 games. However, the problem that looms is Necas, like Jeannot, is not an unrestricted free agent. He is a pending restricted free agent and the Flyers would need to work out a trade.

While Philly has interest in acquiring Necas, Carolina has also been looking for suitable partners to move Necas this offseason. No real strides have been made to get closer to making this deal, but Flyers fans all around would be pleased to see Necas in orange and black next season.
