Anthony Duclair Inks Contract With New York Islanders
The Canadian native played the best hockey of his NHL career in his short stint with the Tampa Bay Lightning last season. Now he’s on Long Island for the next four seasons. Before his tenure with the Bolts, Duclair signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the San Jose Sharks. Duclair was out for most of the 2022-23 season injured. And a stacked Florida Panthers roster could no longer afford his services.
With minimal help in San Jose, Duclair potted 16 goals and 11 assists for 27 points in 56 games (o.48 points per game played). As a member of the Lightning, he scored eight goals and seven assists for 15 points in 17 games (0.88 points per game played). Duclair brought an element of speed to the Lightning top six along with dominant 5v5 possession metrics via NaturalStatTrick. What does he bring to the squad for next season?
How Duclair Impacts the Islanders Next Season
Duclair fit instantly for the Lightning since his first game with the club. His services only cost Julien BriseBois and the franchise a third-round pick and defensive prospect, Jack Thompson. Duclair was always a solid player over his 563-game career in the NHL. He notched 146 goals and 157 assists for 303 points. With this deal awarded to Duclair, he should help provide the Islanders with some added scoring. Overall, Duclair is a massive help to the roster for the next few seasons.
