The Seattle Kraken have re-signed winger Jordan Eberle to a two-year contract with a $4.75 million AAV. As a UFA after this season, this move shows Seattle’s feelings towards the winger. This deal also includes a full No-Trade Clause.

Seattle Kraken Re-Sign Jordan Eberle
Drafted in the first round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers, Jordan Eberle found himself with the Seattle Kraken as a result of the expansion draft. Prior to being selected by Seattle, Eberle was playing with the New York Islanders. At age 33, the 5′ 11″, 190 lb. forward can provide some offence in the team’s top six. Playing over a decade in the NHL, Eberle’s best offensive season came in 2013-14 when he scored 28 goals and 37 assists. Last year he scored 20 goals and 43 assists in 82 games. He was a big piece to the Kraken reaching their first-ever Stanley Cup Playoffs appearance.
While Eberle at this stage isn’t going challenge Auston Matthews for the goal-scoring race, he will provide the team with a solid top six winger. He will chip in offensively and can hold his own defensively. But Eberle can also help out on the power play as he has been known to be fairly effective in the past.
What This Means
Eberle was on the last year of his contract this season. With Seattle seeing this, Seattle had to choose whether to move Eberle, re-sign him, or lose him for nothing in the offseason. They opted for option two. Seattle made the playoffs last season and isn’t necessarily in a rebuild. But they also are still looking to group together a solid core to move closer to the top of the league.
This contract extension shows that General Manager Ron Francis views Eberle as more valuable to the team than what he might have fetched in a trade. Watch as the Kraken move forward with Eberle.
