The Vancouver Canucks have announced that defenceman Chris Tanev will be out for a remainder of the season with a lower-body injury. The injury was sustained in Friday night’s 3-2 shootout loss to the New Jersey Devils.

Tanev suffered the injury after blocking a shot from Kyle Palmieri in the first period on Friday night. Tanev went to the locker room immediately. He did try to skate during a T.V. timeout. However, he was in some obvious discomfort and returned to the dressing room. Tanev was seen in a walking boot and using crutches after the game.
Head Coach Travis Green believes it is a broken bone.
In 55 games this season, Tanev has scored two goals and added 10 assists for 12 points.
He has played his entire nine-year NHL career with the Vancouver Canucks. Over that time he has registered 20 goals and 78 assists in 445 games.
What This Means for the Future
More bad news for the oft-injured Tanev, who had just recently returned after missing 11 games due to an ankle injury. Tanev also missed five games earlier in this season with a hip injury. Here’s a list of all the time Tanev has missed over the past few seasons.

With Tanev out, Luke Schenn is expected to slot back into the lineup. In seven games with the Canucks this season, Schenn had recorded one assist.
Schenn was acquired by the Canucks on January 17th from the Anaheim Ducks and had spent some time with the Canucks’ AHL affiliate Utica Comets before being recalled due to the Canucks’ injury woes.
We could also see the debut of top prospect Quinn Hughes, who was recently signed but has yet to draw into the lineup due to a bone bruise suffered in his final days playing at the college level. Hughes was expected to be out for a week.
The Canucks next game will come on Sunday when they visit the Dallas Stars.
