Rumour has it the Minnesota Wild are investing in veterans. Today President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Bill Guerin announced the re-signing of Minnesota’s forward Ryan Hartman, solidifying a veteran core of Mats Zuccarello, Marcus Foligno, and Hartman. The three-year deal will award Hartman $12 million ($4 million average annual value) and will carry the veteran through season 2026-27.

Minnesota Extends Ryan Hartman
In 59 games, Hartman recorded 37 points, 90 penalty minutes, a plus-seven rating, and six gaming-winning goals last season. The undisciplined penalties may have landed the South Carolina Native a few games on the bench in season 2022-23. However, the 29-year-old’s leadership role, effectiveness on the penalty kill, and ability to play centre on the top line have earned him an extension with the hockey club.
The top-liner has shown his commitment to Minnesota on more than one occasion. On Hartman’s last contract, he took a $200,000 pay cut to stay in the State of Hockey. With the jump from $1.7 million AAV to $4 million AAV, the Wild have awarded Hartman’s commitment to the team.
Hartman Will Enhance Minnesota’s Post-Season Performance
Minnesota’s re-signing of Ryan Hartman proves the team believes the forward will play a vital role in the heavily anticipated cup run the team hopes to have in season 2025-26. Despite suffering a knee injury and essentially playing on one leg last postseason, Hartman scored the game-winning goal in Game One, the longest game in franchise history, against the Dallas Stars. While luck left the Wild with another first-round exit after Game Six, Hartman used the series to prove he could be a playoff player for the Wild once they shed their salary cap limitations.
Hartman is one of three veterans Minnesota has re-signed this preseason. With Zuccarello, Foligno, and Hartman on the last year of their previous contracts this season, Guerin could have waited until March 2024 to sign the three skaters. Instead, Guerin made his faith in the forwards official immediately after beginning discussions with them during training camp. “[The three of us] all had the same agreement with wanting to be here, wanting to build something here, and win a Stanely Cup here,” Hartman reflects on the conversations with Guerin.
