The Boston Bruins have agreed to trade defenceman Adam McQuaid to the New York Rangers in exchange for defenceman Steve Kampfer, and picks in the upcoming draft.

Bruins Trade Adam McQuaid to the Rangers
The Bruins completed a trade Tuesday with the Rangers. The Rangers acquire defenceman Adam McQuaid in exchange for defenceman Steve Kampfer, a fourth-round pick in the 2019 NHL draft and a conditional seventh-round pick in the same draft.
Key Players
In McQuaid, the Rangers get a veteran defender that is a big body and is very strong. This season he scored one goal and three assists for four points in 38 games. He also added 39 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers are 51.2 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -4.6. Those totals are down compared to last season, where he scored two goals, eight assists for 10 points.
McQuaid has only played for the Bruins during his nine-year NHL career. He has put up 13 goals and 53 assists for 66 career points in 462 career games. He was originally drafted in the sceond round, 55th overall of the 2005 NHL draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets.
In Kampfer, the Bruins get a puck-moving defenceman that can do well lower in the lineup. This season he logged one assist in 22 games. He also added 20 penalty minutes. His possession numbers are 42.6 Corsi and a relative Corsi of -5.4. Those totals are down from last season, where he scored a goal and registered an assist for two points in 11 games.
Kampfer has played for the Boston Bruins, Minnesota Wild, Florida Panthers and New York Rangers. He has put up 10 goals and 16 assits for 26 career points in 166 career games. He was originally drafted in the fourth round, 93rd overall of the 2007 NHL Draft by the Anaheim Ducks.
What This Means for the Future
The Rangers shore up a defensive group that has a lot of questions. McQuaid will be a solid depth pickup for the club.
Kampfer will compete for a spot on the bottom pair with the Bruins. He could also end up in Providence of the AHL.
