Michael McCarron Re-Signs with Montreal Canadiens

The Montreal Canadiens re-signed free agent (position) Michael McCarron to a one-year, two-way contract worth $874,125 at the NHL level and $70,000 at the AHL level. This contract carries him through the 2019 season.

Over his three-year NHL career, McCarron has spent his entire time with the Canadiens organization. McCarron was the Habs 25th overall pick in the 2013 NHL draft. He has put up 2 goals and 6 assists for 8 career points in 69 career games.

Last season he scored 0 goals and 1 assist for a total of a single point in the NHL. In the AHL, however, McCarron managed to score 7 goals and 17 assists for a total of 24 points with the Laval Rocket. He also added 32 minutes in penalties in the NHL and 121 in the AHL. His possession numbers in the NHL were a 44.1% in Corsi and a relative Corsi of -7.7.

In his AHL career, McCarron has 31 goals and 50 assists for 81 points in 144 games. He also has racked up 278 penalty minutes.

What This Means for the Future

McCarron could look to crack the Canadiens opening night lineup in 2018 as a potential third or fourth liner. Most likely being placed in a bottom six role McCarron will look to create chemistry and chime in on helping the team win games. With Michael McCarron already 23 years of age, general manager Marc Bergevin might decide it’s time to give the winger a long look at this upcoming year.
