New York Rangers Trade Young Forward
Kravtsov, 23, came to the organization in the COVID-shortened season of 2020-21. However, he failed to gain his stride in the NHL. That season saw him register just two goals, and two assists through 20 games played. He decided to go back to the KHL with Traktor Chelyabinsk. Next, after being there since, the Rangers were able to convince the young player to come back for this season. It has not worked out well, as he has just three goals, and three assists in 28 games played. Meanwhile, for the Rangers, picking up Lockwood likely means he will go to the AHL, where he has 18 points in 26 games this year.
How This Impacts The Canucks
This could potentially be a smart move for the Vancouver Canucks. Their goal is to grow their prospect base, and this does help in this regard. Speaking of the acquisition, Vancouver GM Patrik Allvin said “We are excited to add Vitali’s combination of size and skill to our group.” With young players like Elias Petterson and Vasily Podkolzin, Kravtson might just fit right in with the Canucks. Furthermore, it will be good for the player to get a fresh start, as his time with the Rangers had not been productive. He is still young, and playing in Vancouver where expectations are not that high right now should allow him to avoid high-pressure situations while he develops.
How This Impacts The Rangers
This could end up being a major deal for the Rangers organization. After the deal, capfriendly.com reports they are expected to have a deadline cap space of $1.9 million. This means they are a step closer to being able to acquire Patrick Kane. In contrast, you can make the argument that this is still a long way to achieving. Capfriendly.com reports that the remaining daily cap hit of Kane’s contract is $2.7 million. So, it does appear to be attainable. Furthermore, it looks as though the Rangers are serious about contending for the Stanley Cup this year. They have already traded for Vladimir Tarasenko from the St. Louis Blues. If they are somehow able to add Kane, they instantly become one of the top three or four contenders in the Eastern Conference.
