Star Vancouver Canucks Defenceman Headlines Injured List
The Canucks luck is getting even worse, as star players Quinn Hughes and Brock Boeser are out with injuries.
Hughes, 23, has now been listed by the team as week-to-week with an apparent lower-body injury. Hughes has only played five games this season, where he recorded five assists for a point per game. Boeser, 25, has been listed day to day after taking a maintenance day on Sunday, according to head coach Bruce Boudreau. Boeser has played in six games, where he recorded four assists for four points.
These injuries come at a time when the Canucks are on a franchise record losing skid to start the year. They’re also the only team to still be winless this far in the season.
What This Means
As if the Canucks season couldn’t get any worse, they lose two of their top players to add insult to injury. If the Canucks want to turn things around and make an attempt to save their season, they will try and work around the losses of Boeser and Hughes in order to at least generate some momentum. The Canucks have had a rough start to the 2022-2023 season, and fans have seen enough. It’s become so bad that fans have started throwing jerseys onto the ice.
The Canucks could wave the metaphorical white flag, and set their sights on the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, where prospects like Connor Bedard and Matvei Michkov are up for grabs. That being said, it’s not even ten games into the season. There is still plenty of time for the Canucks to turn the season around. After all, the St. Louis Blues were famously dead last in January of the 2018-2019 season, before ultimately winning the Stanley Cup that June.
