Jonas Siegenthaler Extended By New Jersey Devils

Jonas Sigenthaler Contract

The New Jersey Devils continue to make moves and this improves the back end. After trading for John Marino and signing Brendan Smith, the team has decided to lock up one of their own. The New Jersey Devils have signed Jonas Siegenthaler to a contract extension. Jonas Siegenthaler has a new contract. The deal is for five years and carries an AAV of $3.4 million dollars per season. This is huge not only for the player but for the team as well.

Devils Extend Siegenthaler

This is a huge deal for the Devils. Like all great Devils teams of the past, they continue to build the back end. The team has Dougie Hamilton in the fold and now has two young defensive defencemen in the fold with Sieganthaler and Marino. The back end of this group is built for the long haul and should be really good for the Devils going forward.

Why Siegenthaler Earned The Contract

Jonas Siegenthaler had a good campaign for himself. The player set career highs for himself across the board. He played in 70 games and managed to score one goal, 13 assists, and 14 points. He is not exactly known for his offensive game, but he shines brightly on the defensive side of things. Siegenthaler led the team in hits (98) and blocked shots (106). According to Evolving Hockey, his player card demonstrates how great he was defensively for the Devils. He has climbed the ranks and has cemented himself as a top-four defensive defenceman.

How This Impacts The Devils

Jonas Siegenthaler has a new contract. This deal is great for the player and himself. But this deal really signals what the Devils have going for them. The core of the Devils blue line is taking shape and Siegenthaler is now part of it. Dougie Hamilton, Siegenthaler, and Marino are all locked up for the foreseeable future. Not to mention the Devils have Luke Hughes and Simon Nemec right around the corner. The Devils are making moves and this is beginning to look like a competitive team on paper. Entering opening night, the defensive group should look something like this:

Graves-Hamilton

Siegenthaler-Severson

Smith-Marino

It’s exciting times in New Jersey.
