According to Elliote Friedman of Sportsnet, the Nashville Predators will re-sign free-agent forward Filip Forsberg to an eight-year contract worth $68 million, or $8.5 million per season. This contract carries him through the 2029-30 season. The Predators get the deal done just days before Forsberg was set to hit the market in free agency.

Filip Forsberg Signs Contract With the Nashville Predators
Over his ten-year NHL career, Forsberg has only played for the Nashville Predators. He has put up 220 goals and 249 assists for 469 career points in 566 career games. He was originally drafted in the first round, 11th overall of the 2012 NHL draft by the Washington Capitals. Forsberg was traded to the Predators in 2013 and has been with the team ever since. He is coming off a six-year, six-million-dollar contract and his value is still going up. Forsberg had a career-high season this season scoring 42 goals and recording 84 points in just 69 games. This season he was ninth in the league for even-strength goals.
What He Brings to the Table
The 27-year-old was always a solid forward, but this season he elevated his game to be one of the top producing forwards for the Predators. Not only can he score, but Forsberg is also defensively sound, making him a solid two-way player for any team. His puck-handling skills are one of his biggest strong suits. This allows him to maneuver through the defence and even make some fancy plays.
At six-foot-one inch, Forsberg is not the biggest guy but he still plays a very physical game. Thus far in his career, he has laid 755 hits. With relatively low penalty minutes, he is about as well-rounded of a player as you can find. As an alternate captain, his leadership skills on and off the ice are there as well. There is no doubt that the Swede will only get better and continue to elevate his game. He will be an asset to his team for years to come.
