Among the list of players who were injured during or playing through injuries in the playoffs, the Boston Bruins have added Brad Marchand to that list. The Bruins lost in the First Round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs to the Carolina Hurricanes. Shortly after, they revealed that Marchand had been playing through shoulder and hip injuries for most of the season. Marchand underwent hip arthroscopy and labral repair on both hips today. He is expected to make a full recovery and will be out for about six months.

Brad Marchand Injured, Will Miss Start of the Season
The 34-year-old forward, who has been with Boston since 2009, has been one of their most consistent goal scorers in the last seven seasons. This season he scored 32 goals and recorded 80 points. Although this is not his highest offensive season, he still managed to be a point-per-game player. And this was his fifth-highest goal-scoring season yet despite playing through nagging injuries. He did go through an 11-game streak where he did not score any goals. This was concerning to the Bruins and fans as the team was approaching the playoffs. Though, it seemed he was out of his slump during the First Round, as he scored four goals and recorded 11 points in seven games.
What this Means
For the Bruins, Marchand being out for the beginning of the season is going to take some adjustments to the lineup. They will need to find someone who can fill in, in the lineup offensively but also make their presence known. Marchand is known for being a pesky player and getting under the opponent’s skin. The 2010-2011 Stanley Cup Champions have not missed the playoffs since 2017. They have been in the playoff conversation for years, but seem to be missing a few pieces to secure the Cup again. With captain Patrice Bergeron not signed yet and the possibility of head coach Bruce Cassidy not coming back, maybe the Bruins consider taking a step back to do a small re-build to move forward in the future. Either way, the Bruins hope that Marchand can get back to it sooner than later.
