Robin Lehner to Undergo Surgery – Done for the Season
Some unfortunate news out of Las Vegas this afternoon. The Golden Knights will be without the services of their starting netminder for the rest of the regular season and playoffs.
The team will now turn to Logan Thompson as their number one goalie going forward.
This news comes at a time when the Vegas Golden Knights are fighting for their playoff lives. Vegas currently sits two points out of the final Wild Card spot with four games left to go.
However, the Golden Knights could be in good hands going down this stretch with Thompson manning the crease. Since being called up back on March 13 to be a regular in the lineup, Thompson has strung together eight wins and four losses. This included a five-start winning streak that helped propel Vegas back into the playoff race.
Robin Lehner was having a down year, statistically, but nevertheless, losing your number one goalie is never a good thing. Especially with the lack of depth at the position, if Thompson cools down or suffers an injury as well, Vegas will be in tough to finish the season strong or create any sort of challenge for teams should they make the playoffs.
The Vegas Golden Knights elected to ship out Marc-Andre Fleury in the offseason to make Lehner their bonafide number one starter. There is currently no timetable for his return next season.
Lehner is signed through the 2024-25 season with a five million dollar cap hit.
