The Henderson Silver Knights have signed forward Brendan Brisson to a tryout agreement. The signing comes after the University of Michigan’s 3-2 OT loss to Denver in the Frozen Four semi-final.

Brendan Brisson Signs ATO with Henderson Silver Knights
A trend that accompanies a close to the NCAA Ice Hockey season is signing players to Amateur Tryouts. This is to allow youngsters to play a level of professional hockey, whether it’s the NHL or AHL. Teams usually sign ATOs to avoid burning a year of the player’s entry-level contract. For players like Brisson, whose performance is yet to disappoint in any level played, ATOs are usually followed by an ELC.
Brisson’s Career Leading to His Contract
Brisson grew up playing AAA Bantams with the Los Angelas Jr. Kings. Then, he continued his path playing AAA Midgets with Shattuck St. Mary’s Prep. Following his 101 point season at U18 with Shattuck, he would go on to play with the Chicago Steel of the USHL. In his one year with the club, Brisson recorded 24 goals and 59 points in 45 games.
Furthermore, Brisson would play his first year of college hockey with the University of Michigan in the 2020-21 season. In his freshman year with Michigan, he posted 10 goals and 21 points in 24 games. In his 2021-22 sophomore season, the 20-year-old dressed for 38 games, scoring 21 goals and 42 points. Finishing this season strong, he took a massive step in his development from his freshman to sophomore season at Michigan.
The 20-year-old center was selected 29th overall by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. He has a strong IQ for the game, being able to escape from trouble and tight spaces at ease. He is one of the top problem-solving forwards from the 2020 draft. Brisson is also a great playmaker, reads the offence extremely well and has excellent vision.
What This Means for the Future
Brisson is likely to perform well with the Henderson Silver Knights. Vegas has been riddled with injuries this season and are in a very tight playoff race. They have yet to clinch a playoff birth. They could use the help if he does well in the AHL but they would have to sign him to an NHL contract first. The possibility is there but it’s highly unlikely. The youngster will probably finish his season in the AHL.
