New Jersey Devils forward Jack Hughes has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a left MCL sprain. This comes after suffering an injury in New Jersey’s matchup against the New York Islanders.

Jack Hughes Done For The Season With An MCL Sprain
Hughes has been diagnosed with a low-grade left MCL sprain and will be held out for the rest of the season, according to the Devils’ medical staff. He will begin rehab and conditioning immediately, in order to prep for next season.
Hughes, 20, will end his season with 56 points in 46 games, and a surprising 0 penalty minutes. This is a considerable jump from his last two seasons, as he notched up 21 and 31 points in a similar amount of games played.
Hughes was drafted first overall by the Devils in 2019 and has spent the past three seasons in the NHL, never making an appearance in the AHL. He spent the majority of his junior career in the USHL with the US National Team.
What This Means For The Devils
For the Devils, this deals a huge blow considering that he is 2nd in scoring for them this season. It also adds a roadblock to Hughes’ development. This season was the year where he was taking the next step as he had a significant jump in production.
He may be a bit sluggish considering his knee, but thankfully it isn’t a tear and he can get back to full competition in no time.
The Devils aren’t expected to make the playoffs, so they don’t have to worry about losing any major production for the playoffs.
Hopefully, he makes a complete and full return so he can take an even bigger next set for next year. The Devils are looking to end the rebuild and make their way into playoff contention.
