The Boston Bruins have announced they have re-signed Jake DeBrusk to a two-year deal. However, it appears he still looks to be traded and this may actually boost his value. The contract carries an AAV of $4 million.

DeBrusk was supposed to be an RFA at the end of the season. However, his qualifying offer was going to be over $4 million and there were rumours that teams were worried about that. Now, they know exactly how much DeBrusk will cost if they acquire him and that they would have two seasons after this one before a new deal is needed.
DeBrusk didn’t pan out quite as Boston was hoping he would but is still an extremely useful player. A good middle-six forward, DeBrusk isn’t going to be driving a top line. However, he can play up the lineup if needed. DeBrusk has 15 goals and 11 assists for 26 points in 57 games this year. Over his career with Boston, DeBrusk has 160 points in 301 games played. A very consistent guy who you can expect to get a point every other game or so.
Moving Forward
It will be very interesting to see if DeBrusk is moved today. Boston knows they want to be all-in with their core as Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron are not getting younger. DeBrusk being 25 means a hockey trade could be available, which would open the market up to more than just selling teams.
If he doesn’t get dealt today, his new contract means he will still hold value this summer where he would almost certainly be moved, barring any change of heart from either side.
