On an overall disappointing year, it is more bad news for Ottawa Senators fans. Insiders are reporting that the Thomas Chabot injury will keep him out long-term. Chabot suffered the injury in Wednesday’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. He did not return and it is now being speculated that it may be a broken hand.

Thomas Chabot Injury
This is the last news Senators fans wanted to hear today. Thomas Chabot is the lifeline of this defence and team. He’s the one who makes things work on the blueline with his amazing vision, speed, and ability to get out of issues in any zone. Now, the Senators may be without him for most or all of the final 22 games. Unfortunately, missing the end of the season would be nothing new for Chabot. He also missed the end of last season, which led to Erik Brannstrom and Viktor Mete getting more ice-time.

This season, look for Brannstrom to step up again. However, it may be highly-touted prospect Jake Sanderson who will get some extra playing time from this. Sanderson is finishing up what is expected to be his final year at North Dakota University and will likely be available to the Sens in April. At the very least, this would be a good time for him to get some experience.
Thomas Chabot Injury Adds to Long List
Unfortunately, injuries have been a common theme of this Sens season. Drake Batherson, Joshua Norris, Matt Murray, and Shane Pinto are just a few other key names that have missed time. Often overlapping each other too. Ultimately, this has led to a disappointing year in the standings for Ottawa. Currently second-last in the Eastern Conference, points have been tough to come by.
It will be interesting to see what they do as the NHL Trade Deadline approaches. This injury doesn’t change much except solidify they will be tanking. However, Ottawa does have some players that could be of interest.
