The Dallas Stars announced today that defenseman Miro Heiskanen has been diagnosed with mononucleosis and will be out indefinitely. He has been placed on the injured reserve retroactive to March 2nd. Heiskanen has been having a decent season so far, with four goals and 25 assists in 52 games.

Miro Heiskanen Out Indefinitely with Mononucleosis
The Stars defence has taken another hit, as Miro Heiskanen has been diagnosed with mononucleosis. This comes after John Klingberg requested a trade out of Dallas in January.
The Stars defenseman will be resting for the next couple of weeks, which means that the team will have to rely on the rest of their defence to step up while Heiskanen is out. The Stars are currently 2-1-0 without Heiskanen in the lineup, and the defenseman has averaged around 24 minutes of ice time per game.
The 22-year-old has averaged around 30 points in each of his four NHL seasons and had 26 points in 27 games during the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
What This Means For Dallas
The Stars are currently in a push for a playoff spot and currently sit with a 32-21-3 record. The Stars haven’t been as successful after their 2020 run to the Stanley Cup Finals. With Heiskanen out and Klingberg unhappy, the future of the Stars seems quite bleak with a lot of people wanting out and a lot of their top talent getting hurt every year.
The Stars have been off and on for the past three years. They completely missed the playoffs during an injury-riddled 2020-2021 campaign where they were missing a lot of their top talent. For now, it seems that the Stars are going down a very similar path that they were in 2021. So far, that path has a lot of obstacles that they’re going to need to overcome if they want to win their second-ever Stanley Cup.
