The Chicago Blackhawks have named Kyle Davidson the 10th general manager in team history. This comes after a fallout with former general manager Stan Bowman, which resulted in his resignation in October of 2021.

Blackhawks Name Kyle Davidson General Manager
The Chicago Blackhawks have apparently named Kyle Davidson general manager, although it is set to be formally announced by the team on Tuesday, according to Frank Seravalli.
After Stan Bowman resigned, much to the appreciation of Blackhawks fans and the entire hockey community, Davidson was promoted to interim general manager. This move now removes the interim tag and gives him full control over the team’s future.
The Blackhawks haven’t had the best record this season. Through 53 games, they have a record of 19-27-8, totalling 46 points. This hiring should hopefully steer the Blackhawks in the right direction, as they should be entering the key years of their rebuild. It is time to start putting the talent together and being competitive, with Patrick Kane, Kirby Dach, and Alex DeBrincat.

How This Affects The Blackhawks
While Chicago has had the resurgence of Patrick Kane, there is also the down year for newly-acquired Marc-Andre Fleury. He didn’t want to join Chicago originally and wanted to stay with Vegas. Hopefully, with the new GM, there should be a plan for the Blackhawks to climb their way back to the top. This would let Fleury retire on a good note with the Hawks unless he leaves Chicago in free agency.
As the 2022 trade deadline approaches, this promotion will be extremely crucial to the future of the Blackhawks. However, Davidson will have a lot of pressure on his shoulders to make the right moves. His decision on whether to rebuild or compete will impact the team for years to come.
