Boston

The Bruins have signed defenceman Paul Postma to a one-year, $725,000 contract.

The 28-year-old has played in the Atlanta/Winnipeg organization his entire career. In 2016-17, Postma played 65 games in the NHL with the Jets. He recorded 14 points in that time. He also played seven games in the AHL with the Manitoba Moose, scoring three points.

Minnesota

The Wild have signed defenceman Ryan Murphy to a two-way contract.

Murphy was bought out yesterday after being acquired by the Calgary Flames. A former first round pick, Murphy has struggled in the NHL with the Carolina Hurricanes. A depth defender, Murphy is looking to find his footing with the Wild either as a seventh defenceman or in the AHL with the Iowa Wild.

Montreal

The Canadiens have signed forwards Peter Holland and Byron Froese to two-year contracts.

Holland spent the 2016-17 season with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Arizona Coyotes. After just eight games with the Leafs, he was traded to the Coyotes for a conditional pick. The 26-year-old ended up playing a total of 48 games in 2016-17, scoring 12 points. He was a restricted free agent but was not qualified by the Coyotes. The first year of the contract is two-way, while the second year is one-way.

Froese also spent part of the 2016-17 season in the Leafs organization. He was a minor piece in the Brian Boyle trade at the 2017 Trade Deadline. The 26-year-old played 54 games in the AHL, scoring 46 points. He also played six games in the NHL with the Leafs and Lightning. Froese played 56 games in the 2015-16 season as the Leafs’ fourth line centre, registering five points. The first year is also two-way, with the second year being one-way.

Minor Trade

The New York Islanders have traded Carter Verhaeghe to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Kristers Gudlevskis.

Verhaeghe played 45 games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL, scoring 29 points. In 16 games in the ECHL with the Missouri Mavericks, the 21-year-old had 32 points.

Gudlevskis played 37 games with the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL, posting a 2.65 goals-against average and a .897 SV%. The 24-year-old has played three games with the Tampa Bay Lightning in the NHL.
