The 25-year old, 6’1″, 207-lb defenseman has been a key piece to the Anaheim defensive corps. Fowler fills the role of an offensive defenseman, posting 11 goals and 39 points this past season. This past season he was an average possession defenseman coming in at a 49.7% Corsi-for percentage, just above his career average of 48.6%.

Fowler was selected 12th overall by the Ducks in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.  In his seven seasons with the Ducks, Fowler has skated in a total of 494 games, and has tallied 45 goals and 172 assists for 217 total points. Four of his past seven seasons have been 30-plus point seasons.

Paired usually with Sami Vatanen, Fowler plays solid defense and is speedy on the breakout, being able to handle the puck well in the neutral zone. Fowler has admitted to hearing the trade rumors over the course of the past year, but has turned them into motivation to become a better player. He has certainly done that. Fowler is an offensive weapon and will be looked at to play top-pairing minutes on a nightly basis throughout his contract. He’s already shown he’s up to the task, averaging 24:51 minutes of ice time this past campaign.

Prior to the 2013-14 season, Fowler signed a five-year, $20 million contract deal with Anaheim. That contract carries a $4 million Cap hit. Fowler only had one remaining season left on his contract and would have become an unrestricted free-agent after next season. Fowler will continue to play a top-two defensive role as well as get plenty of power play time, leaned on heavily for his young age.
