The Pittsburgh Penguins re-signed pending unrestricted free agent Jeff Carter to a 2-year contract worth $6.25 million, or $3.125 million per season. This contract carries him through the 2023-24 season.
The Penguins have agreed to terms with forward Jeff Carter on a two-year contract extension.
The deal begins in the 2022.23 season and runs through the 2023.24 campaign and carries an average annual value of $3.125 million.

Jeff Carter Re-Signs With the Pittsburgh Penguins
Over his 17-year NHL career, Jeff Carter has played for the Philadelphia Flyers, Columbus Blue Jackets, LA Kings, and currently the Pittsburgh Penguins. He has put up 411 goals and 377 assists for 788 career points in 1130 career games. He was originally drafted in the first round, 11th overall of the 2003 NHL entry draft by the Flyers.
So far this season, Carter has scored 12 goals and 14 assists for 26 points. He also has 22 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 48.2 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of 0.9.
The deal comes with a full no-move clause for both years of the contract. Carter will make $3,250,000 in the first year and $3,000,000 in his second.
“Jeff’s experience and versatility have made him a valuable addition to our team,” said Penguins GM Ron Hextall. “In addition to his on-ice contributions, his team-first attitude has made him a leader inside our locker room and we are happy to have him under contract for two more years.”
What This Means for the Future
The Penguins acquired Jeff Carter in April of 2021, and since then he has scored 21 goals and 37 points through 50 games for the Penguins. Carter has been an effective player since being acquired, experiencing a resurgence of sorts in his later years. This new deal takes Jeff Carter until he’s 39 years old. He’s an established veteran that can continue to provide some scoring to the Penguins. This contract will likely take Carter to retirement due to his age. He is an effective middle-six player that Pittsburgh likes and has locked down for the next couple of years.
