Restricted free agent forward Andre Burakovsky has signed a two-year deal with the Washington Capitals with a value of $6 million. It carries a $3 million AAV or cap hit. Burakovsky is entering his fourth season in the National Hockey League.

Andre Burakovsky Re-Signs With The Washington Capitals
Burakovsky was drafted into the NHL in 2013 by the Washington Capitals in the first round, playing one year with the Erie Otters before earning his first call up to the NHL during the 2014-15 season. That season, he played in 53 regular season NHL games, scoring nine times and adding 13 assists for a total of 22 points. In the playoffs, he contributed three points across 11 games. He also added three goals and four assists in 13 regular season games with the AHL’s Hershey Bears and added one more in six playoff games.
He followed this strong showing with an excellent sophomore year, playing in 79 NHL games during the 2015-16 season and tallying 17 goals and 21 assists for an impressive 38 points. Across 12 playoff games, however, he only managed to add one point as the Capitals bowed out to the eventual Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins. Last season, his numbers took a slight downturn due to a hand injury that caused him to miss 19 games. By the end of the season, however, he had still managed to tally 35 regular season points in 63 games as well as an additional six points across 13 playoff games.
All told, Burakovsky has skated in 196 NHL games in the past two years. In that time, he has scored 38 goals and has added 57 assists. He has broken the thirty point barrier twice already in his young career and will look to do so again in the coming year. In Burakovsky, Washington keeps a promising young playmaker and will certainly look to him to improve upon his stats from last season.
