Ryan Reaves Extended by Rangers

A day after the Rangers acquired Ryan Reaves from the Vegas Golden Knights, they are locking up the forward to a one-year contract extension. Reaves has been with the Golden Knights since February of 2018 when the Pittsburgh Penguins traded him to Vegas. In his first season with the Golden Knights, he helped them reach the Stanley Cup Final. In addition, Reaves has helped the Golden Knights reach the third round two of the past three seasons. This past season Reaves put up five points (one goal and four assists). For his career, Reaves has recorded 101 points (49 goals and 52 assists) in 686 games. In 12 playoff games this season with Vegas, Reaves added one assist. For his career, Reaves has eight points (three goals and five assists) in 84 playoff games. But Reaves game is not about scoring goals. It is being physical and setting the tone for the hockey game, and that is why the Rangers acquired.

Reaves was originally by the St. Louis Blues 156th overall in the 2005 NHL Draft. From there he went on to play with the Penguins and Golden Knights. And now is with the Rangers. Every place he has gone, he has helped that team win.

Going Forward

The Rangers were looking for a new identity this off-season. They felt they got pushed around too easily. This all stems from the Tom Wilson incident towards the end of the season. The owner of the team decided a change was needed. Chris Drury is shaping the team in the owner’s vision. The addition of Reaves adds physicality to the lineup that was desperately missing. The Rangers wanted to be harder to play against they have it with Reaves, Sammy Blais and Barclay Goodrow. In addition to those three players, the Rangers added Patrick Nemeth and Jarred Tinordi on the backend to be even more physical to play against. Reaves will make sure no liberties are taken for the big stars on the team. He played his role perfectly in the prior destinations in his career.
