The Winnipeg Jets have re-signed free-agent forward Paul Stastny to a one-year contract worth $3.75 million. This contract carries him through the end of the 2021-22 season.

Paul Stastny Signs
Stastny was drafted in the second round, 44thoverall, by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2005 NHL Draft. He played eight seasons for the Avalanche before he signed with the St. Louis Blues as a free agent in 2014. He was in his fourth season with the Blues before he was traded to the Winnipeg Jets in 2018. He finished off the season with the Jets and was then picked up as a free agent by the Vegas Golden Knights. The Golden Knights traded him back to the Jets in October 2020, where he played last season.
In 1,001 career games, he has 263 goals, 492 assists and 755 points, along with 470 minutes in penalties. Additionally, in 103 playoff games, he has 26 goals, 43 assists and 69 points. Two of those goals were overtime winners, and he has one postseason hat trick. Stastny helped lead the Blues to the Western Conference Final in 2015-16. He also helped lead the Golden Knights to the Western Conference Final in 2019-20 but he has never made an appearance in the Stanley Cup Final.
Last season, he tallied 13 goals and 16 assists for 29 points in 56 regular-season games. He added one goal and one assist for two points in the Jets’ short-lived playoff run in which they swept the Edmonton Oilers in the first round but were then swept by the Montreal Canadiens in the second round.
What This Means For the Future
The 35-year-old forward’s point production has slowed down in the past two seasons, but he is still averaging a little over half a point per game. He’s still capable of being a solid top-six forward. If he gets paired with the right linemates, he could easily get back to scoring more and putting up more points.
