Jordan Weal came into the 2016-17 season with a lot to prove. He was a former AHL playoff MVP. He had the chance to prove himself when he was called up to the Philadelphia Flyers in mid-February. Weal delivered as he provided eight goals and four assists in 23 games. For his efforts the Flyers re-signed him to a two-year deal worth $3.5 million. His cap hit will be $1.75 million per season.

Jordan Weal Re-Signs with the Philadelphia Flyers
Weal was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in 2010. It was obvious from the start that playing time in the NHL was going to be hard to come by. Weal spent the first two years after the draft between the Regina Pats of the WHL and the Manchester Monarchs of the AHL. His first full season in the AHL was the 2012-13 season.
Weal proved right away that he was a fit for the professional game. His point total jumped from 33 in his first full season to 70 in his second and 69 in his third. He was a part of the Monarchs team that won the Calder Cup in the 2014-15 season. Weal was named MVP of the playoffs, scoring 10 goals and 12 assists in 22 games.
He made the Kings team the following season. But once again playing time was hard to come by. Weal appeared in 10 games before being traded to the Philadelphia Flyers for Vincent Lecavalier and Luke Schenn. An injury limited his playing time as he appeared in just four games for the Flyers.
Last season Weal spent the beginning half of the season with the Leigh Valley Phantoms. He once again proved that he was dominant in the AHL as he produced 15 goals and 32 assists in 43 games. An injury to Travis Konecny gave Weal another opportunity at the NHL level. This time, Weal took that chance and ran with it.
The signing of Weal is a low-risk, high reward type of deal. While Weal only has 37 games of experience under his belt, he has shown flashes of the type of player he can become. He will look to continue prove his worth with the Flyers.
