Tom Wilson to Attend Player Safety Meeting

An in-person hearing with the Department of Player Safety means that Tom Wilson could be suspended for more than five games for his hit on Brandon Carlo. In a game against the Boston Bruins, Wilson charged and boarded Carlo, hitting him high behind the net with his shoulder.

So far this season, Wilson has scored seven goals and ten assists for 17 points. He also added 25 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 46.1 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -3.8.

Wilson has played for the Washington Capitals during his entire 8-year career. He has put up 84 goals and 119 assists for 203 career points in 543 career games. He was originally drafted in the 1st round, 16th overall of the 2012 NHL draft by the Capitals.

What This Means for the Future

With Wilson potentially set for his fifth career suspension, the Capitals will have to manage without him for multiple games. TJ Oshie will likely take Wilson’s place on the second line alongside Jakub Vrana and Nicklas Backstrom. They will need to rely on physicality from other players in order to energize their roster without Wilson. With the team neck-and-neck against the Bruins for first place in the East, they’ll need all they can get from their roster to make the push. Wilson’s history of hits and suspensions will likely warrant a much larger suspension for the forward.
