For those of you who remember the play, there was much controversy. Moreover, throughout that game, there were a few events that caused some discussion. On the play that Greig is being disciplined for, there was a full, on-ice scrum. Greig ends up sucker punching Carolina Hurricane defender Sean Walker. It was a cheap shot, as Walker was tangled up with another player at the time. Furthermore, Walker would later enact some revenge of his own. He would end up running Greig into the boards. There were other big hits and dust ups throughout that very wild game.
Ridly Greig Is Known to Play On the Edge
The penalty handed down today from NHL Department of Player Safety for Ridly Greig is a two-game suspension. He will serve the suspension at the start of the 2026-27 NHL regular season.
Greig is a feisty player and known to play on the edge. Of course, for those type of players, occasionally they will go over the edge. Live by the sword, die by the sword, as they say.
It is likely a reputation that Greig has around the league already. We all remember the slapshot on the empty Toronto Maple Leaf net. That was followed by a big time hit by Leafs defenceman Morgan Rielly on Greig. What we might not recall, was the battles Greig had been subjected to earlier, motivating the slapshot.
The Sens love the way Greig plays. The only thing that they would probably ask is a bit more discretion in his actions. He is known for battling hard, and always being involved in the play. This year saw him take on a bigger role, within the top six for Ottawa. Therefore, he became a big asset for them, and was even subject to trade rumours. However, he is not a player that general manager Steve Staios was willing to move. He is a big part of the Sens, and this suspension, will do little to deter that sentiment from the team going forward.
