The Carolina Hurricanes lead the first-round Stanley Cup Playoff series over the Ottawa Senators 1-0, and Sen fans are concerned about the health of their blueline. Moreover, coming into the game, defenceman Artem Zub was listed as a game-time decision with a leg injury. He was confirmed to not be dressed.

Leading up to Game 2, head coach Travis Green maintained his usual tight-lipped approach to injury updates. Therefore, they hadn’t given an injury update, besides to say he would be a game-time decision. Moreover, Zub had left Game 1, after throwing a solid hit on Canes winger Seth Jarvis. Zub only managed a little over a period of action. The Sens were in tough for the rest of the group to step up in his absence.

Another injury update from today was on rugged defenceman Tyler Kleven. He had been injured a couple weeks ago, with some sort of facial injury. Furthermore, today he was seen without the non-contact jersey in practice. You know he must be close, despite being ruled out earlier today for tonight.

In Game 1, Dennis Gilbert only played 8:26 of ice time. He is likely to get the call again tonight, to help fill the gaps. Additionally, another big name, Carter Yakemchuk was practicing with the main group this morning, raising some eyebrows. Furthermore, Lassi Thomson is probably the next man up, if Green wants to go with a different look for those depth guys. Thomson did get the nod in this one, on a third pairing with Gilbert.
Tyler Kleven is out tonight.
Artem Zub is a game-time decision.

Game 1 showed the heavy reliance on those that were left in the top four. Jake Sanderson, Thomas Chabot, Jordan Spence, and Nikolas Matinpalo had big minutes in game one. In particular, Spence had 23:40 of ice, and both Chabot and Sanderson were around 27 minutes. Moeeover, for Chabot, very impressive to be doing what he is doing with a recently broken (or fractured) arm.
