New York Islanders Sign Former First Rounder to ELC

The New York Islanders have signed their first-round pick from the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. Forward Cole Eiserman signs his entry-level contract today. It is a three-year deal for the former 20th-overall pick. Furthermore, Eiserman will report to the AHL’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers. This is a big signing for the Islanders, so let’s discuss why the club and the player’s futures are so bright.

New York Islanders First Rounder Cole Eiserman Signs ELC

Eiserman did drop surprisingly far in the first round of the 2024 draft. Coming into the draft, some had him projected around the top five. There had been some apparent apprehension about his skills transferring to the NHL. However, his decorated career to this point cannot be denied.

From his time at the US National Team Development Program, he has the second most points all-time (193), behind the leader Jack Hughes (228) and two points more than Will Smith (191). He experienced much team success playing for his country. He was a member of the under-17, under-18, and under-20 Gold Medal winning sides for Team USA. Also, last year he was named to the all-tournament team for the NCAA Championships.

In addition, in his two years at Boston University, he has shown consistency in hitting the back of the net. In his freshman year, he had 25 goals, and he followed it up with 18 this year, as a sophomore. All told, in 71 games for the Terries, he totaled 64 points. Solid numbers for a player looking to refine his all-around game.

What this means on the Island

With this signing, the Islanders hope he can carry his offensive upside to the pros. There should be no reason he can’t carry it over with dynamic skills and a wicked shot. Islander fans can’t wait to see him on the power play with rookie phenom defenceman Matthew Schafer in the years to come. With veterans like Mathew Barzal and Bo Horvat there, he has plenty of tutelage to show him the professional ropes. Eiserman and the Islanders have a bright future, one fans will be excited to witness on Long Island.
