NHL Rumours: Several Teams With Heavy Interest in Rangers Vincent Trocheck

After the trade of Artemi Panarin, it is becoming increasingly clear that the New York Rangers are not yet done exploring the trade market. Now, Vincent Trocheck is gaining heavy interest from a few teams as the Rangers look to continue their rebuild.

NHL Rumours

Latest on the New York Rangers and Vincent Trocheck

Rumour: This article from Rangers beat writer Vince Mercolgliano describes a press conference with Trocheck, where he states where he prefers to go, as well as listing some potential teams that would be a good landing spot. The piece states that one team has made their final offer, and that Rangers general manager Chris Drury is shopping for a better offer.

Analysis: This aligns with what many speculated. The Rangers are continuing their rebuild by trading another established player to a contender. New York will get the best return they possibly can, looking for more prospects and picks to establish their future. For Trocheck, the number one priority is to go to a contender that can win a Stanley Cup.

Trocheck has proven that he is absolutely worth a big investment for any team. His play in the Olympics shows that he can be a grinder kind of player, but he has plenty of scoring ability. Trocheck has scored 38 points in 46 games this season and is the Rangers’ top faceoff man. Trocheck helped the USA men’s win gold through faceoffs as well. The Rangers paired Trocheck with Panarin and Alexis Lafrenière almost throughout his tenure, and he was so important to their success.

However, there is one hurdle to any trade involving Trocheck. As the article shows, he has a 12 team no-move clause, with a lot of those teams being on the West Coast. The Rangers have entertained an offer from the Minnesota Wild for Trocheck but are currently looking around the market for a better offer.

Other teams interested include the Detroit Red Wings and the Carolina Hurricanes are landing spots for the veteran centre.

What it Means

The Carolina Hurricanes are an interesting landing spot for Trocheck. He fits the style they want to play perfectly, and he will fit immediately into their penalty kill and potentially their power play as well. The Hurricanes have looked for a big swing all season, and Trocheck fits the bill as a big add for them.

The favorites to get Trocheck are the Wild at this point. The trade for Quinn Hughes from the Vancouver Canucks has accelerated the Wild’s cup window, and getting Trocheck will continue to push the Wild further ahead of the rest of the league. There’s some familiarly there too thanks to the Olympics, and all signs point to Trocheck ending up here.

The Red Wings are more of a dark horse, as they haven’t exactly been lighting the league on fire. However, Trocheck offers them a good defensive forward to pair with their strong offensive threats. He immediately becomes their number one faceoff man, and offers a boost to the team’s physicality, which will be tested in the playoffs.
