News Emerged Today of Sexual Charges Against Former NHLer Ryan Kesler
The details of these charges are not pretty. They allege that Kesler engaged in sexual contact with a 16-year-old. He is charged with two counts of such an event happening. Furthermore, the charges are explained as being “through force or coercion and/or (had) reason to know that the victim was physically helpless.”
This is a very disturbing situation. We hope the victims are getting utmost of support in this time. You never want to hear about these types of things happening. As a note, at his arraignment, Kesler did plead not guilty.
We will emphasize, that at this time, these are just allegations. However, having the courage as a young victim of such a crime to step forward, must be welcomed. Many in similar positions don’t do it, so to have the strength to do so, is a welcoming sign.
The Impact on the Hockey Side of This
For Kesler, he played 15 years in the NHL. His last season was 2018-19. He had been head coach of the Little Caesars 15U team in the Detroit, Michigan area. It has also been reported that he has now been removed from that position.
This furthers the tough image hockey has had over the last number of years, and trying to clean up. From the Team Canada junior scandal to other events, including Washington Capitals assistant coach Mitch Love‘s recent removal, the hockey community is trying what it can to clean up its image and perception in the world. Acting swiftly and with impunity is the only way to do it. To try and show the fans they will do what’s right.

"While the allegation is not connected to our organization, Kesler has been removed from his position while this matter is addressed by the judicial system."
