The Montreal Canadiens injuries continue to mount as news emerged on Friday about a number of them. It was announced that defencemen Mike Matheson and Kaiden Guhle are both injured. This news came via Stu Cowan of the Montreal Gazette. News also broke that Juraj Slafkovsky left Friday’s practice with an apparent shoulder injury.

Montreal Canadiens Injuries Just Keep Coming
Matheson left Thursday’s game versus the Los Angeles Kings after the first period. However, he’s not been declared out for Saturday’s game against the New York Islanders.
Guhle is day-to-day according to Sportsnet’s Eric Engels, who reported that Guhle is out for Saturday’s game. The young blueliner was injured after taking a hard hit from the Kings’ Adrian Kempe. This incident occurred at the start of the second period of Thursday’s game.
Slafkovsky left Friday’s practice with a possible left shoulder injury. Habs Head Coach Martin St. Louis said that the former top pick’s status is unclear for Saturday’s game against the New York Islanders.
The Slovakian standout will make the trip to Long Island for the matchup with the Islanders. However, he is likely to be a game-time decision.
What It Means
Montreal has been dealing with a number of injuries to the start the campaign. Both Patrik Laine and David Reinbacher were injured in the preseason. Laine escaped a major injury, but Reinbacher is out long-term for Montreal.
Those injuries compound losing Rafael-Harvey Pinard due to a broken leg. He is on long-term injured reserve as well.
The Canadiens came into the season with some promise. However, the injuries have caused plenty of problems for the club.
Montreal has called up Logan Mailloux from the AHL Laval Rocket to fill help the void in the backend. However, it’s going to be a tough task to stabilize the defensive group.
