Devils Ink Young Forward to New Contract

The New Jersey Devils have come to terms with Dawson Mercer on a new contract. The 2020 first round draft pick will remain with the Devils for the next three years and will have an AAV of $4 million. This is a great deal for both sides and Mercer remains part of what the team is building.

Mercer Remains a Devil With New Contract

Ever since being drafted by the Devils, Mercer has been a key player from day one. He gave the coaching staff every reason to remain with the club and has been a mainstay ever since. Also, in three full seasons with the club, he has played 82 games every season. It’s truly remarkable to see and how he’s been a factor each year.

Mercer has not been shy when it comes to producing. In 246 career games, Mercer has scored 64 goals and 131 points. His best year came during the Devils historic 2022-23 season, where he scored 27 goals and 56 points.

The Devils core is well put together and Mercer becomes a great complimentary piece round out their depth.

The Outlook for the Devils Regarding this Contract

The Mercer contract is great for both the Devils and the player. Mercer is getting a deal to remain on a competitive team and the Devils keep a player that gives them depth. New appointed head coach Sheldon Keefe must be excited about this one. The core that’s put together is young and talented.

A group featuring Jack Hughes, Nico Hischier, Jesper Brett, Dougie Hamilton, and Timo Meier is lethal. Pair that with younger players such as Simon Nemec, Luke Hughes, and Mercer and you have something brewing. Mercer gives the Devils tremendous depth and has been a tremendous asset for the team. Exciting times for the Devils ahead in 2024-25.
