It was announced that veteran goalie Alex Stalock retired on Sunday. He was an unrestricted free agent, but has decided to retire. The journeyman netminder will become of the San Jose Sharks radio crew. This news was broken by The Athletic’s Eric Stephens.

Alex Stalock Retired After 11 Seasons
Stalock has played for the Sharks, Minnesota Wild and the Chicago Blackhawks over his 11-year NHL career. The 37-year-old recorded a 9-15-2 record with a 3.01 goals-against-average with Chicago this season. Stalock also posted a .908 save percentage and two shutouts this season with the Blackhawks.
The St. Paul, Minnesota native has a career record of 70-65-20 with 11 career shutouts. Stalock has career goals-against-average of 2.70 and a save percentage of .908. San Jose originally drafted him in the fourth round, 112th overall of the 2005 NHL Draft. The veteran netminder played college hockey in the NCAA with the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Stalock made the WCHA first team in the 2008-09 season and was an all-academic selection.
He’s played at most levels of professional hockey from the ECHL to the AHL. He’s carved out a lengthy career with his best season in 2019-20 with his hometown Wild. Stalock notched a 20-11-4 record with with four shutouts. He also netted a 2.67 GAA and a .910 save percentage.

The journeyman goalie wasn’t going to challenge for a starting spot. However, he’s now taking the next step in his career. Stalock will be part of a rotating group with Scott Hannan, Jamal Mayers and Jason Demers.The former NHLers will do games with Dan Rusanowsky. He’ll also appear on some pop-up telecasts with Randy Hahn.
The Minnesota native did have a solid career at the end of theday. Lasting 11 seasons in the NHL is a big deal. Stalock did have some bright spots in goal for a lousy Chicago team that struggled at both ends of the ice.
