The Edmonton Oilers Have Re-Signed Key Depth Forward

The Edmonton Oilers are proud to announce today that a depth centre of theirs, Mattias Janmark re-signs with the club. It can be difficult to put a price tag on a player like Janmark, but that is exactly what the organization did, and now he has a new deal. He is signed for three years and $1.45 million per season.

Mattias Janmark Re-Signs an Extension With the Edmonton Oilers

Throughout Mattias Janmark’s career, one thing he has been, unfortunately, is inconsistent. Therefore, it is difficult to put a price on the value he brings to a club. His 2023-24 season is a prime example of this confusion. In 71 regular season games, Janmark struggled to find any consistent productivity. He went long stretches without score, and finished with just four goals and eight assists in 71 games played. However, he had half that much production, in fewer games when the 2024 NHL Stanley Cup playoffs rolled around. In 23 games for the Oilers, he was a penalty killing machine, and chipped in three goals and three assists. Furthermore, back earlier in his career he was projecting as a more productive point-getter. For example, in his second NHL season, with the Dallas Stars in 2017-18, Janmark tallied 19 goals and added 15 assists for 34 points. So, trying to find the happy medium of how much to pay him was probably more difficult than the casual observer cares to admit.

What Does Janmark Bring to the Table

As Mattias Janmark re-signs with the club, you know what you are getting. In the playoffs, Janmark, along with Connor Brown, really established themselves as a one-two punch when shorthanded. Janmark is a player that lives on the third or fourth line, but he is content to be there, and will chip-in offensively. If he could just add some consistency to his point production in 2024-25, he would really become the ultimate depth piece.
