Edmonton Oilers Sign Viktor Arvidsson Contract

Arvidsson has played for the Nashville Predators and the Los Angeles Kings over his 10-year NHL career. Injuries troubled the veteran Swede as he scored six goals and nine assists for 15 points in 18 games. He had a Corsi for of 60.3 and a relative Corsi of 13.8

The Skelleftea, Sweden native has 179 goals and 183 assists for 362 points in 546 career games. Nashville originally drafted him in the fourth round, 112th overall of the 2014 NHL Draft. Arvidsson is a former two-time 30-plus goal scorer in his tenure with the Predators.

The 31-year-old has represented his native country at the junior and senior level. He won a silver at the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championships and gold at the 2018 World Championships.

What It Means

Edmonton is doing all it can to find some low-cost deals to supplement the likes of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. The Oilers were one game away from clinching their first Stanley Cup since 1990. This team is always in the market for depth scoring and Arvidsson could help with that.

However, there’s a worry about Arvidsson’s injury history. He’s been in and out of the lineup since the trade to Los Angeles. The veteran can provide goals, but he has to stay in the lineup in order for that to happen.

There’s also concern about the cap hit, but Arvidsson could settle those fears if he posts some decent goal totals. Acting General Manager Jeff Jackson is looking to keep the ship steady while the search for a general manager continues.
