Rumour: The Future of Edmonton Oilers star forward
There are players that are eligible to sign contract extensions come July 1. One of the more anticipating ones is New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin. He has been the backbone of the Rangers and is going to get a hefty pay raise. Chris Drury will have his hands on the team and what he can do to improve them. Also, extending Shesterkin is big business.
Another player that is eligible for an extension is Leon Draisaitl. Given the state of the Oilers and how far they’d go to compete, many wonder what his future plans are. He and the Oilers were two goals shy of winning the Stanley Cup. The team showed they can go the distance and do something specials. However, the quotes he revealed after the Finals were done lead us to speculate his future.
Draisaitl Wants to Take Time
The latest NHL Rumours is one of the juicier ones out there. As time got closer, everyone was ready to see how the Draisaitl sweepstakes would play out. Coming from him, this is going to be a time thing. After the Stanley Cup Finals, Draisaitl went on to say,
“It’s going to take a little time to figure out what I want, what the Oilers want, what everyone wants, and go from there.”
Draisaitl has one season left with a salary cap hit of $8.5 million. Given the calibre of player that he is, a significant raise is coming his way. Not to mention, the arsenal that the Oilers can receive in a potential trade. With Ken Holland walking away from the organization and a new person in charge, it’ll be interesting to see where he ends up.
The Betting Favourites
That didn’t take long. There are betting favourites to landing Draisaitl and what team he will play for next. Vegas odds have Draisaitl landing with the Boston Bruins, which would be interesting. Also, the Bruins would have a true number one centre and David Pastrnak would have a great player to play with. Whether that happens remains to be seen, but those are the favourites according to Vegas.
