Carolina Hurricanes Gritty Forward Brendan Lemieux Re-Signs

The Carolina Hurricanes have rewarded one of their gritty, depth guys, with a one-year contract extension, as Brendan Lemieux re-signs. The contract is worth $775K for Lemieux who was making basically the same at $800K in 2023-24. Lemieux knows his role with the club and does it well. He’s the type of player that will come in crucial for long playoff series, the Hurricanes might just find themselves in.

A Re-Cap of Brendan Lemieux Stats As He Re-Signs with Canes

This news might not jump off the page, but as Brendan Lemieux re-signs, let’s look at his key stats. His career-best season came back in 2019-20 as a member of the New York Rangers. That season saw him reach career-highs in assists (12), points (18), penalty minutes (111), ice time (12:52), and hits (164). Moreover, none of these statistics jump off the page, but he does register a good amount of hits relative to his total game time. This season with Carolina, he has but three points in 25 games, and 7:46 of average ice time.

What Does This News Mean to the Hurricanes?

The point of the Carolina Hurricanes making it important as Brendan Lemieux re-signs is the message to the entire roster. The team just added one of the biggest names in the trade market, Jake Guentzel. In addition, they took a flyer on Evgeny Kuznetsov hoping they could rekindle the spark that burns within him. Therefore, for the players that don’t get a lot of ice time, they need to be shown that their role is just as valuable. Lemieux is a physical, fourth-line player. He can jump in game three of any playoff series, and not miss a beat. Carolina is loaded up for a long post-season run and doesn’t want anybody left behind. If your team made the moves to get themselves over the top, the Hurricanes did, and Lemieux will be along for the ride.
